Construction

There has been ongoing construction on the bay bridge since we moved to SF. And last night it really grabbed our attention.

Every 20-30 seconds a horn would go off. So, just as we started to drift off to the rumbling of the jackhammers ... honk! It made Eric think of the stereotypical sound of New York.

Luckily it seems like it was only a one-night deal. Makes me miss the quiet suburbia of my youth.

Hope you're getting a good night's sleep!

Name that muffin!

(a rogue's gallery of muffins)
As a Friday ritual, Julie and Eric have been baking snacks for the students on Saturday. Brownies, cake, key lime bars, blueberry muffins...
For a change, we decided to make marble-cake muffins.
Which leads us to our challenge - name these muffins:
(monster muffin? vomiting muffin? turtle muffin?)

Only one thumb was harmed in the making of this post.

Hostile work environment

Julie, being the hipster that she is, had Eric get this shirt to wear for dress-down day at work (a.k.a. casual Friday). It turned out to cause quite a stir. While Eric was concentrating on the presentation at the staff meeting, several coworkers were bobbing their heads up and down, giving Eric funny glances. Eric thought he must have some food on his face from lunch, but it turned out that everyone was just trying to figure out what was on his shirt.
One manager joked that wearing a skull creates a hostile work environment.
However, Eric read in the recent Esquire that skulls are the latest fashion symbol representing a carefree attitude towards life - the duality that the skull represents both the emptiness of consumerism and the embodiment of it.

Spam Musubi

Eric and Julie decided to take Sung and Shirley's advice and try out some home made spam musubi.

First we fried up some spam with soy sauce,

Then we place the spam in the center of a nori and place some vinegar mixed rice on top

Then... Ta da!! SPAM MUSUBI ^_^

Here is a video we found on You Tube to help us make our spam musubi:

Little wet-nose round-up

In honor of Jenny's birthday, we all went to Tamales Bay for a great BBQ/Oyster fest. The grilled oysters were so good that it reminded Julie of the grilled oysters she had in Miyajima, Japan.

Eric and Julie found Jenny this great apron that says,"beagle hair adds flavor"
Julie also got to reminisce about the joy of having a dog by playing with all the little wet-nosed friends at the party
