William week 8: Thank God for 6 hours of sleep

WILLIAM SLEPT FOR 6 HOURS LAST NIGHT !!!! (and so did we ^_^)

From the living room you can see the changing table. Julie can keep tabs on Eric when he's diaper changing.

Amazingly, this wasn't from costco... it was from babies-r-us (a.k.a. BRU).

When he squints his eyes the wrinkle on his nose connects the two eyes into one long wrinkle.

Julie made an apple-hat. (Eric thinks it looks like a plunger -_-)
And here is the amazing no-sugar, flourless, raw, vegan chocolate cake! We found it described at shellyfish.wordpress.com

Flourless Chocolate Cake from Raw Food Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet:

  • 1 1/2 cups raw walnuts, unsoaked
  • Dash salt
  • 10 pitted dates, unsoaked
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocao or carob powder (I used carob)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (I used 1 teaspoon & 1 teaspoon almond extract, too)
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • raw fruit for garnish

Put the walnuts & salt in your food processor and whirl until finely ground. Add the dates, carob powder, and extracts and process until it begins to get sticky, add the water and process briefly. Dump it out onto a plate and form it into your shape of choice, then off to the fridge for at least 2 hours.

All about free stuff!

With the little one, we try to find fun entertainment around the city. It is even better if it is free of course! Eric found out that California Academy of Science has one free day a month. So he took the day off and took Julie and Little William to see the penguins.

Here William is showing off his new Julbo sunglasses to protect those handsome eyes ( Eric said we can't call them pretty... they are handsome... not pretty!)

The butterflies at the rain forest exhibit were amazingly beautiful. They are not afraid of people at all. They would strike a pose on a near by flower so you can take as many pictures as you want.

We even took the little guy up to the famous grass roof.

Since we are on the search for free stuff, we also found out that De Young's King Tut exhibit was free last weekend. Even though they don't start passing out tickets until 8:00am... the line was super long by 9:00am ( there was 1000+ people in front of us already and they are only giving out 4000 tickets/day).

Here is our little King Tut ^_^

Happy New Year!!

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!!!Since Eric and Julie can't go back to Taiwan to celebrate this year, grandpa and grandma F came up to help watch William while Eric and Julie went for a little outing to celebrate Valentine's day instead.

Julie and Eric got to go watch Fiddler on the Roof with Andrea and Noelle. They were so relaxed during the show that they did not even think about calling to check up on William during intermission.

They even got to take William to go see the world's largest pillow fight on Valentine's day.

William Week 7: Passport Photo

We are finally ready to apply for William's passport. According to online tips, getting the baby passport photo is probably the most difficult part of this whole process. Since we are not sure when our little prince would be awake and we didn't want to waste the photographer's time at the photo studio, we decided to do it at home.

It was difficult to get our little guy to cooperate and to think that he will be stuck with this photo for 5 years... pressure~ pressure~ -_-
There are so many shots we thought were nice but not formal enough for a passport.
We started with some shots at night... since he is most awake around 7-8pm... 30+ photos later... he just looks like a little guy with a really nice tan.

We then attempted another session first thing in the morning. He is so happy to be awake that he gave us all these funny looks.

Finally... a shirt with little airplanes for the passport ^_^

Who does William look like?

We are still trying to figure out who William looks like. Most of the time we think he looks like Julie, but when he is awake and looking around with his big eyes... he looks a lot like Eric ^_^

William week 6: Biggest Smile ^_^

Big milestone this week!!! Big Smile!!!
William surprised us with a big smile two nights ago. At 2:05 am, while Eric and Julie were both exhausted and changing William's diaper, he surprised us with a big smile. Even though he was able to smile before, it was usually due to gas or BM... this time it was a response to us and repeatable when we smile back at him.

Here are the pictures of William's fashion show. Since William is growing so fast, Eric and Julie decided to take pictures of these heirloom knits. These are all wool sweaters Eric's grandmother made for Eric's dad. They are such pretty sweaters we thought we should take pictures of him wearing them before he outgrows them.

Of course, Eric and Julie also made more funny t-shirts for William... he was such a good sport to let us try all those clothes on. He is probably thinking, "people, make up your mind already. Stop putting shirts on and taking them off ^_^"

William also allowed his parents to have a peaceful birthday dinner with their friends. He slept in the Baby Bjorn while Julie ate dinner. A napkin was draped over his head to prevent any spillage (see picture above). Since our first dinner out was so successful, we will have to do this again.

William Week 5: Bye Bye A-Ma

William was sad to see An-ma go home...

Eric and Julie were really thankful to have Mama Yang for the past month to help take care of William. She seems to have the magic touch to calm junior, especially at night. She also provided a break for Eric and Julie when their arms/backs were tired. The day of departure, Mama Yang wouldn't put William down all day...but we will meet again soon (after William gets all his vaccinations).

Milestone of the week - peace, baby, peace:

William found his thumb this week! Looks more like he is giving you the peace sign. He is able to self-sooth by sucking on his thumb but he doesn't like to do it a lot, as he would rather be picked up.

Also, he is getting a little big for the car seat when the infant inserts are used... he is definitely growing really fast. Here he looks a little squished in his car seat. At his last doctors visit, he was weighing in at 12.5 lb, which is at about the 94th percentile.

William Week 4: Diaper Talk

Overheard at the changing table...
E: Look, William has a freckle [on his posterior].
(E&J take a closer look)
J: Are you sure
E: Yes, what else could it be. It isn't the color of his poop.
J: I still don't think so.
(E: Scrubbing at it with a wet-wipe)
E: ....
(Freckle disappears)
William is still freckle-free.

And now more pictures:

Eric got dressed up for tie-last-Tuesday-of-the-month (William was born on Tuesday the 29th, but since not all months have a 29th Eric decided to go with the last Tuesday of the month).

Here is his (one-month) birthday suit. He was not happy as a rabbit!

One happy family ^_^
