Baby William: Week 3

William has been gaining weight really fast, so we took this picture to show off his thin legs before they turn into thunder thighs. He has jumped from the 50th percentile for weight to the 80th, so he is definitely bulking up.

William is concentrating hard on the one solid thing that he produces... (We are being entertained by, and learning to read, his facial expressions).

When alert, he can be full of mischief ^_^

It warms our hearts when he grabs our fingers with his tiny little hands.

Julie (31 years) and William (3 weeks) celebrate their birthdays. William is too young to appreciate cupcakes.

And at the end of the day, he surrenders to sleep after a good feeding.

Baby William: Week 2

Our little mochi ball continues to amaze us with his many facial expressions.

Besides entertaining the newest addition to our family, Julie also got to celebrate her 31st birthday. Mama Yang actually let Julie out of the house for one hour to enjoy a nice massage with Eric and allowed Julie to attend Eric's company holiday party at the Exploratorium. See Julie trying to drink water out of a toilet fountain (a friend told us the water does not taste good).


And, finally, Eric helped celebrate Julie's birthday with some fancy chocolate-dipped strawberries... and a pair of really pretty earrings.

Thanks to the girls, Julie will get to enjoy another day at a fancy spa after the month-long stay-cation imposed by Mama Yang.

Baby William: Week 1

Our little mochi ball is full of facial expressions. We were surprised to see him smile at such a young age and to find dimples on both cheeks... (we both don't have dimples... must be from grandpa ^_^) [The baby books all say smiling is due to gas, but we know it is because he is happy to see us!]

We also discovered that poopy diapers are sure smelly... Thanks to Lou, Valli, and Louis, we had the Diaper Genie to seal off the smell from the many fully-loaded diapers that we change each day. And yes, it is interesting when you pull out the "strand of pearl" from the Diaper Genie -_-

Thanks to Andrea and Mike, we also got some beautiful flowers to celebrate the homecoming of our precious cargo. Thanks to Jenny and Andy, we had some bibs to get us started...

William is an extremely good sleeper. It is often hard to wake him up to eat... (here he is fashioning Eric's play-suit from his baby days ^_^)

It is even difficult to keep him awake once you start feeding him.

He also got a few more nick-names:
"Mr. Clean": junior will always make his presence known right when he is done soiling his diaper.
" Houdini": junior is able to get out of any swaddle or mitten we put on him. Once he figures out how to do it, he can repeat it and get himself out of any restraints in a short amount of time.

Jaundice... -_-

At William's 48-hour follow up exam, we found out that junior's jaundice had gotten worse and so we were readmitted to the hospital. Lots of guilt was going through Julie since this is most likely due to dehydration brought on by not getting milk.

However, seeing William quickly rebound back to good health while receiving photo-therapy in the incubator really cheered us up.



Junior looked like he was enjoying a nice tan at a resort. He would put his hands behind his head and stretch out his body as if he is laying out on a lounge chair.

We even found out he is a little nudist (naturist) at heart... since he kept trying to take off his diaper ^_^

We were discharged within 24 hours and everything was back to normal.

Happy New Year's Eve

After a 2-night / 3-day stay in the hospital following deliver, we were ready to take our mochi ball home. Papa bear and baby bear put on the matching outfit that mama bear made earlier in the year for this big occasion. (Don't they look alike? ^_^)

Mama Yang (now Grandmama Yang was so excited to hold her grandson for the first time). Grandmama Forister was busy taking lots of pictures.

Here are the happy parents taking junior home for the first time ^_^ William didn't really like the car seat at first. But he quickly enjoyed the swinging motion of the car seat and enjoyed being carried to the car and driven home.

We were glad we were able to enjoy this year's New Year's Eve fireworks from our own apartment window (instead of the hospital's)... William wasn't too thrilled because it was in the middle of his feeding session.

He was our new year's present and resolution!

D-Day!!!

The early signs of the arrival of our little one were much less stressful then we anticipated. Julie's water broke early Sunday morning. Not a dramatic Hollywood gush but a trickle with little to no discomfort. After confirming the status of our labor at the hospital, we opted to try some home remedies to speed up the contraction instead of staying at the hospital and being induced with medication.

We tried walking up and down the stairs of our 9th-floor apartment 3 times. We tried eating spicy curry and pineapples, and drinking cold water. We even went for a walk up the hill by the Legion of Honor and saw the Cartier exhibit.

By nightfall, the contractions were still far and few... Papa Yang was really nervous about infections so the troop gathered up their luggage again and headed back to the Hospital.

Here are the happy parents-to-be before the induction medication.... little did we know what was coming! When Julie enter the hospital, she was already having contractions every nine minutes. The medication (starting at 2am) ramped up the contractions to every minute within two hours... then it was 2 min on and 0.5 min off... only then did the nurses turn off the medication to let her own body take over. It was a sleepless night.

The grand parents-to-be were sent home that night thinking that the baby will arrive soon after they wake up the next day... but soon day turned into night. Many families had delivered and left already but there was still no signs of our little one.

Since we wanted to have a pain-medication-free delivery, the long labor took all the energy out of Julie. 40 hours of labor later, the medical team determined that Julie would either have to take an epidural and induction medicine so that she could rest and speed up contractions or she will need a C-section. We opted for the epidural. After 2 hours of napping (Mama Yang said she's never heard of someone who has to take a nap in the middle of delivery to deliver a baby ^_^) and 3 hours of pushing later, not much progress was made... so junior was delivered with a vacuum assist! He came out slightly cone-headed but the doctor promised this would soon be gone ^_^ We were all in tears when he arrived. His heart rate was strong throughout the whole ordeal... and he was calm and sleepy when he arrived.

Weighing in at 7lb 15oz, measuring at 20 and 3/4 in long, our little prince brought all of us so much joy and pride that morning.

Week 39!!!

Mama Yang arrived 2 weeks early just in case junior arrives early. Maybe because the weather is too cold in SF and junior really enjoy his current 24 hr climate control/food delivery 1 cubic foot apartment, he has decided to stay for the whole leasing period^_^

We got to celebrate a quiet Christmas this year. Mama Yang and Papa Yang got junior a set of fancy gold bracelet/necklace/ring gift set to help celebrate his arrival.

Eric got thicker kitchen mittens to help him earn more brownie points.

And Julie got a new SLR to take LOTs of pictures of junior when he arrives ^_^
